Alek Fester

Oboist Alek Fester specializes in the performance of music from the Baroque to the Romantic periods on period instruments. Based in Basel, Switzerland, since 2009, he performs regularly with Capriccio Barockorchester and has appeared as soloist on their two most recent recordings of new arrangements of Handel orchestral works. He holds degrees from the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, Indiana University and Sarah Lawrence College. In 2025 Alek will receive a Master of Reformed Theology from the University of Basel. His master's thesis is entitled: "Church as a Dangerous Place: The Incompatibility of Music and Worship in the Theology of Huldrych Zwingli". He expects to be ordained in 2026.
