This performance features period instruments in two of Schubert's greatest chamber music creations. The familiar "Trout" Quintet for Fortepiano and Strings is named after a simple tune used as the basis for a delightful theme and variations, but that is only one of five affecting movements. The C-major String Quintet stands out for the unusual scoring (standard string quartet plus additional cello) and emerged in the final days of Schubert's life.
Schubert | “Trout” Quintet in A Major, D667
Schubert | String Quintet in C Major, D956
